Here at Banana Moon Barnstaple, we absolutely love sharing stories and reading with children throughout the day. We have books readily available in each age group for the children to independently explore and read in addition to story-telling that takes places throughout the day and at circle time.

We therefore absolutely love celebrating World Book Day each year, and sharing our love of reading with the children and their families!

The aim of World Book Day is to, "change lives through a love of books and reading"  which is an aim that we are certainly on board with! We therefore did lots of fun and extra special activities on World Book Day in order to help foster this love of books and reading with the children in our setting.

We invited our staff team as well as the children to dress up for the occasion, dressing as a favourite book character. In order to promote sustainability and reduce waste, we encouraged everyone to get creative and recycle, re-use or buy second-hand wherever possible. And the outfits certainly disappoint! Amongst the staff alone, we had 'Where's Wally,' Matilda and the Trunchbull herself!

In addition to dressing up, on the day and throughout the week, the staff set up lot of book-themed play invitations! The children were tasting foods that 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' ate, enjoying a tea party for 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' making 'Gruffalo' crumble, being 'Supertato' and mashing the evil peas, and much more!

We were also lucky enough to be invited to a story-telling session at our local Waterstones store! A group of our little moons and some of the staff team walked into town and enjoyed listening to several different stories read by the children's staff at Waterstones, and the children were very excited that she was dressed up as Mr Messy!
