On 22nd June, we hosted our first Sports Day! The day was a great success, the children loved having a go at the different ‘events’ and it was great to see so many parents come along to watch and support their children. The sun even shone for us!
We started the day with our Baby and Teenie Moons, who enjoyed throwing beanbags, having a go at an egg and spoon race and doing the ladder run. However, their favourite event seemed to be the cup and water race, which consisted of filling a cup with water, then whilst holding the cup of water, weaving through the cones and tipping the water in another container at the other end. Some of the children carried water back and forth for a very long time and had so much fun!
The second part of the day was for our Mini Moons! The Mini Moons completed the same events as the under twos, but also had a go at tug-of-war and sack races! The children enjoyed the tug-of-war, pulling the rope to-and-fro, and particularly enjoyed it when the staff joined in! The staff then became a bit competitive, so the team then had a go at their own tug-of-war, which was a very closely fought battle!
Finally, it was the turn for our eldest children: our Full Moons! For the Full Moons session, there was a little more structure, where the children were put into different groups and completed each activity for five minutes, before rotating round to the next activity. Our Full Moons particularly enjoyed the sack race, jumping up and down in the front garden (although some needed a little help from their grown-ups!). After completing all the activities, the children requested a running race, so ran the length of the lawn, some of them very quickly! After which, it was the dads’ turn! None of the mums wanted to race, but there were some very competitive dads who did, so they completed a sprint race and a tug of war!
A fantastic day was had by all and was rounded off with some delicious refreshments made by our Nursery Cook, Sadie. The children all received a medal and a certificate to recognise their efforts, and the winning dad also received a medal!
We can’t wait to host a sports day again next summer!
