For a number of years now, there has been a national focus on creating opportunities for intergenerational care and projects. Britain is classed as one of the most age-segregated countries in the world, so there have been a number of initiatives put in place to bring younger and older people together to build relationships in communities.

Here at Banana Moon Barnstaple, we have made a partnership with our local nursing home. We take groups of children from all our age groups to the nursing home each week, where they interact with the home’s residents and participate in a range of different activities, organised by our team of Early Years Professionals as well as the nursing home’s Activities Co-ordinator.

On our first visit, the children enjoyed doing some colouring activities with the residents as well as chatting over a yummy biscuit! It was clear from the faces of our children and the clients, that they had such a lovely time. On our second visit, we played some parachute games and played some music, which was accompanied by lots of smiles and laughter by both young and old alike. The children have been full of chatter about their new friends and their outing ever since and cannot wait to go back!
